Bovine
Protein C
Purified from
fresh citrated bovine plasma using a combination of salt precipitations
and column chromatography. Protein purity is determined by SDS-PAGE and
shows total reduction upon incubation with
2-mercaptoethanol. Protein C is activated to the serine protease,
Activated Protein C (APC), by α-thrombin or the complex of α-thrombin/thrombomodulin. This
APC is a potent anticoagulant through the selective inactivation
of Factors Va and VIlla.
